The UK Wants Clean Growth. Hemp Is Ready.
Yesterday at Lancaster House, the Prime Minister promised to “accelerate the push to net zero”, powered by a muscular industrial policy and a national focus on energy security.
That’s the opening line we’ve been waiting for.
Industrial hemp can help deliver it, through carbon-negative crops, circular materials, and homegrown supply chains that support green jobs across the UK. From aviation biofuels and car parts to sustainable construction and regenerative farming, this is a sector built for what comes next.
We’ve already seen movement:
– The shift to 0.3% THC
– Licensing reforms for farmers
– Political alignment around clean growth
But the real barriers remain. POCA still locks out institutional investment. Hemp businesses can’t access basic banking. And we’re still importing carbon offsets, building materials and biofuels we could be making here.
The political appetite is there. So now we take that as read, and move forward with real, workable proposals to unlock the sector.
